Fix disappeared URL redirects causing 404s on Shopify

When a product or page handle changes — or an app rewrites handles in bulk — the old URLs start returning 404s unless redirects exist. Lost redirects mean lost rankings and lost sales from links Google already indexed.

Step by step

  1. Find the broken URLs fast: check Google Search Console > Pages > Not found (404) and your server/app 404 logs.
  2. Recreate redirects under Online Store > Navigation > URL Redirects (old path → new path).
  3. If many handles changed at once, re-import a redirects CSV rather than fixing them one by one.
  4. Snapshot handles and redirects daily so the next bulk handle change doesn't silently 404 your best pages.
